Me-rror 2001

Me-rror is an interactive installation. 20 strips of mirror, each 4' by 45' are mounted inside a frame and hung on the wall. Each mirror can rotate sideways driven by a computer controlled motor. The purpose of this assembly is to create a large mirror that follows whoever is in front of it. The result is that anyone standing in front of the Me-rror sees themselves reflected in all of the mirror strips simultaneously The Me-rror tracks the person in front of it and changes it's state to accommodate their position . If two people stand in front of the Me-rror , the response changes, and the Me-rror changes its state so that each person sees the other person in all 20 strips. The Me-rror is on display at ITP NYU in a busy corridor where it follows the students as the walk in and out of the classrooms

Technically - 20 servo motors controlled by 3 Serial controllers connected to a computer running Director . Tracking is achieved by using a video camera on top of the Me-rror and using the TrackThemColors Xtra to track for change.
